Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about our Trial Flights.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the experience?
Your Trial Instructional Flight is booked as a 2-hour experience, which includes approximately 45 minutes of pre-flight briefing, 1 hour in the air, and time afterwards to debrief and ask questions. This allows you to enjoy not just the flight itself, but a genuine introduction to what it is like to train as a pilot.
How much control of the aircraft will I have?
This experience is designed for people who want to do more than just sit back and watch. Under the guidance of your qualified flight instructor, you will have the opportunity to take the controls during the flight and enjoy a real hands-on flying experience. The amount of control you have will depend on the conditions on the day, but we always aim to maximise your involvement.
Do I need any flying experience?
No flying experience is needed at all. Trial Instructional Flights are specifically designed for beginners and are a great way to experience aviation for the first time, learn more about flight training, and discover what it feels like to fly an aircraft.
Where will we fly?
Your route on the day will depend on the weather and air traffic conditions, but during your flight you can expect to be flown over parts of the city and surrounding areas. Every flight is a little different, which makes each experience unique.
What do I need to bring?
Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, and bring sunglasses and water. We recommend dressing for the season so you can remain comfortable throughout your briefing and flight.
What happens if the weather is not suitable for flying?
Safety always comes first. If the weather is not suitable for flying, we will usually know in advance and will contact you to reschedule your booking. There is no rebooking fee.
Can friends or family fly at the same time?
Each Trial Instructional Flight is for one participant and one instructor. However, we can often accommodate multiple bookings in a day, so friends or family members may be able to book their own flights at the same time.
Is there a minimum height or maximum weight?
Flights are conducted in a Piper Warrior or Piper Archer, which have strict weight and balance limitations. Participants must be at least 140 cm tall to safely reach the controls, and the maximum weight is 110 kg.
Is there a minimum or maximum age?
There is no minimum or maximum age limit for these flights. However, participants must be able to safely fit the aircraft and reach the controls, which generally requires a minimum height of 140 cm.
